Top End of the World Movies 2012

So here are a few great end of days films that you and a loved one may want to watch this weekend. Just so you know what you missed.

Image 2012 It’s only fitting that this be the first one. It is 2012 ya know.

Top End of the world films

War Games Mathew Broderick as A young man finds a back door into a military central computer in which reality is confused with game-playing, possibly starting World War III. And then they play chess and eat cookies!

District 9

District 9 An extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions on Earth suddenly finds a kindred spirit in a government agent who is exposed to their biotechnology.

This was from the team that were supposed to make the live film HALO. Still Waiting for that one.

There is no Sanctuary

Logan’s Run An idyllic sci-fi future has one major drawback: life must end at 30. Michael York, Jenny Agutter star in this film. And I just love Jenny Agutter. The Film is Campy compared to the cinema of the day, but is very telling to the culture of the 70′s. Youth was calling the shots, beauty and leisure coupled with freedom to consume. This film can easily cross generation gaps.

Equilibrium

Equilibrium In a Fascist future where all forms of feeling are illegal, a man in charge of enforcing the law rises to overthrow the system.

Christian Bale!!

Matrix

MATRIX You know the story, you know the characters. Re-watch it, because the world as we know it may have already come to an end.

The Book of Eli

The Book of Eli Denzel… A Bible… And a Machete… That’s about all I have to say about that.

Zombieland

Zombieland

Zombieland Um probably one of the coolest, not too gory Zombie films. We got my man Woody Harrelson as a twinky loving ass kicking zombie hunter. And that dude from Kick-ass… No Super-Bad… Wait ummm oh! The Social Network kid. Surprise cameo by Bill Murray.

Shaun Of the Dead

Shaun Of the Dead

SHAUN OF THE DEAD! I love British humor. So they would rather spend their last days at the pub, drinking pints and playing pinball. Would make for an awesome film. I’m waiting for part 2.

Planet of the apes

Planet of the apes

Planet of the Apes “Get your paws off of me you damn dirty Ape!”

I would suggest every, “Planet of the Apes” ever made… except for the one with Mark Wahlberg… could have been better.

Classic!

Don’t price me out! Celtx Script Writing Software

Back in the day when I use to write my 90 – 120 page scripts, Final Draft was the way to go. I was in College at the time and had to dish out about 200 bucks, pretty expensive for a college kid. I had Taken a break from writing scripts, but when I did pick it up again I had learned that the disk was lost and or stolen and I didn’t have it on my new computer. I called Final Draft to see if they would give me another copy or down load they said no of course.

A friend of mine told me about a FREE download called Celtx. I thought free? It’s going to be rittled with ads, product placement and not have any functionality except for a formatted word document. I uploaded it and after about 10 minutes of a learning curve I was writing a script again. Now I don’t write the long scripts that I use to write before but I was in need of some short format scripts.

I was pleasantly surprised by the functions. Especially the story board function. I hate doing story boards, but this function is pretty cool if you are passing along to a real artist to make it happen for you. And I love the sketch feature.

Celtx Sketch Feature

Now let’s look a bit past the features, there have been many reviews out there that put Celtx and Finaldraft neck and neck. My cool factor points goes to marketing and social awareness. Most of the folks that I have brushed shoulders with that use this software are Social Media type folks. People that are making film for the interent and understand quality over cost. Just because one software is industry standard doesn’t mean that we have to use it, especially if you are not writng for the industry.

The internet and new media video producers have become a D-I-Y industry. One man shows have no need for industry standard because they have become the industry. If you want to know more about this you can check out my other blog “Internet killed the TV star“.

Celtx uses a plug-in form operation, you can have it for free, but there are some cool plug-ins that you can have as well, “make your life a lot easier” sort of deal. And for what they offer for free, I would be more than happy to pick up a plug in every-so-often just to show my appreciation. As is going the way of the consumers these days. It would almost be like getting a free car that looks like everyone else and once in a while driving into the dealer ship to add on a color, a stereo or some 22″s.  People would do it quite often if it meant having a little individuality. Hey I may be on to something!

So onward new companies who just plain get it!

Internet killed the TV Star

Hollywood is the ER patient that is hanging on to life. With every loss in life they are trying to resuscitate it with whatever new or old treatments they have. They are using old body parts to bring back the dead, remaking what has already been remade. Organs are failing and the paddles of 3d and CGi are only keeping the bad heart of a story alive for only so long.
This decade many aspiring film makers dropped out of the rat race to get J.O.B.s, most in the real estate industry. Some grew impatient while others found employment and careers in other markets. With all of the strikes that happened , creativity stopped, the desire to struggle for a questionable industry decayed, and Hollywood had to play catch up to the internet which seems to still be growing exponentially.
The internet has become an important tool in film making now days. There is a D.I.Y quality about the internet.
If you have a camera, some form of editing equipment and a rag-tag crew (yourself), you can make, create and distribute your own work. And after the inevitable breakdown of blockbuster http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/blockbuster_files_bankruptcy_hopes_to_reorganize/
One can say that the brick and mortar world of film, a conundrum, is now looking towards a virtual audience.
There are so many tools that are at the new film makers disposal. Cameras from $50 to $5000 that you can use to make a semi-pro hidef film. Editing equipment that is offered free with some computers as well as more advanced editing equipment. Outlets and distribution to an audience like YouTube, vimeo and special interest sites. All of this can be done on a very low budget and the ability to have an un-foretold number of audience members.
Even fund raising has become a much easier task, with web pages that allow the film maker or artist to build a social base and raise funds for their films. Indiegogo.com and kickstarter are just a few to start off the fund-raising campaign.
After the funds and after the film is complete, then what? Well once your film is on the internet whatever outlet you choose, it has become easy to make a little cash off your work. Advertisers are starting to realize the huge impact that the internet is having on purchasing trends. There are untapped resources out there via the internet that the advertisers were not privy to before. Social networks and open source networks, are just a few ways an advertiser can get their brand out there. And the more hits a page gets the better it is for both parties.
Ad networks are becoming easily accessible to individuals and a source page can easily be liked up with related industries as sponsors. Technology that is already in place makes it easier for business owners and advertisers to get an understanding of current trends, page views and crowd sourcing, which has never been easier. Unlike television there is no need for extra equipment in the 2.0 world, nor is extra work or questionnaires needed. (Nielsen Ratings)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neilsen_ratings
This type of real world analytic is what is pushing Advertisers to sponsor individuals as a brand. And it is what Hollywood and mainstream television (the old school) is concerned about.

Internet personalities like Tay Zonday “Chocolate Rain”, Justine Ezarik A.K.A IJustines ” 300 page cell phone bill”, and Backyard Brawls are just a few who became brands in their own rights and have moved on to different forms of success. They have become the forerunners of a medium that can do bigger and better. The lack of limitations on the net, no time frames, no rules needed, and no producers looking down your neck to get the film done for the Market. With that type of freedom think of the possibilities. Freedom of creativity, news information, imagination and an audience to watch.

Independent film on the Internet

Okay I found this gret article about independent film losing ground in the brick and mortar world. The number of indie film houses are dying off by the 100′s and the only out source for independent film is via the big guys like The Sundance Channel who are increasingly distributing more and more big budget so-called independent films, or the internet who at times can be very back yard low budget. So we are missing that middle ground of great independent films with decent story, dialogue and cenematography while at the same time having that organic feel to it, for lack of a better word. There are a lot of really great shorts on the internet, there are even a few on mediasetfree’s site. And the bar is beig raised everyday. If there are any Lord Of The Ring fans out there, did you know that there is a film on the web that was made for LOTR fans by LOTR fans, read how and why they did it as well as watch the full movie at “The Hunt for Gollum” There was a great deal of controversy about this, copy write and legalities but in the end they were not breaking any laws only expanding on the story. So on to the article the reason Why Mediasetfree keeps going. Read woodstock film festival.
